Haiku Synopsis

I used haiku throughout The Red Kimono. This is the first one to appear in the book. It is my favorite, and if I had to summarize the whole book in one haiku, this would be the one.

Too often we wear “masks” to hide who we really are, often because it is what is expected of us. And, too often, we don’t take the time to get beneath the masks that others wear. When we don’t, we all lose.
