Winner of the Oghma Creative Media Haiku Contest

I love to read haiku, so judging the beautiful entries received for the haiku contest sponsored by Oghma Creative Media was both a pleasure and a challenge. After much review and thought, we have our winner.

Envelope, please.

And the winner of the haiku contest sponsored by Oghma Creative Media is . . . drumroll . . .

John Han

John is a native of South Korea who came to the United States in 1988 as a graduate student in English. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in English at Kansas State University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, respectively. He now teaches full-time at Missouri Baptist University as Professor of English and Creative Writing. He also serves as editor of Cantos: A Literary and Arts Journal and three literary chapbooks at the university.  He also taught haiku classes at Washington University in St. Louis.

Congratulations, John!

I’ve invited John to join us at the May 18 Ozarks Writers League meeting, and he plans to attend. I very much look forward to meeting you, John.

And now, the winning haiku:

first cherry blossoms
a petal almost touches
her red kimono

I would love to post all of the haiku entries that we received, however, I don’t know what each entrant’s future plans are for these entries. Therefore, if you entered a haiku, please feel to share it with everyone by posting it in the comments section.

Thank you to all who entered. And of course, a big thank you also to Oghma Creative Media for sponsoring this contest. If you’d like to follow Oghma, here’s how:
