#VideoChallenge: Stepping Outside of My Comfort Zone

video image

Thank you to my friend, Nita Beshear, for “challenging” me to participate in the 30-Day Video Challenge. This is WAY outside of my comfort zone, but for that very reason, I MUST take on this challenge.

Each day, I’ll read a short excerpt from The Red Kimono, and will add other little impromptu commentary about the story behind the story, or my writing life, or how my day is going . . . whatever comes up. That’s the scary part.

Each video is unscripted, other than the excerpt. Now, if that’s not a cliffhanger, I don’t know what is.

Feel free to give me critique on how I can improve — that’s the whole purpose of this challenge, to get comfortable with video blogging (vlogging?) and improve over time.

Stay tuned . . .

Reblogged this on Jan Morrill Writes and commented:

I’m giving “vlogging” a try over at http://www.TheRedKimono.com!

    Good job!

You did well. Will you be providing story background before or after future readings?

    • Jan Morrill says:

Hi Russell. Yes, I’m going to talk about some of the background as I read excerpts that were taken from my background. I’m trying not to plan too far ahead so that it’ll be unscripted and “natural.” 🙂

  5. Janice Heck says:

Looking forward to hearing more of this book and reading it. Thanks for moving out of your comfort zone it video blogging. Not sure I could do that. (Do I hear a challenge for myself in the works?)

    • Jan Morrill says:

Hi Janice! Thanks for stopping by and following along! I strongly encourage you to challenge yourself. It gets easier with every video, and it’s actually approaching FUN! 🙂

      • Janice Heck says:

Fun? Permit me to chuckle. But yes, I do know that things that are at first scary become easier with time. For me, blogging is a good example. Maybe next year on the Vlogging. I’ll have to watch your progress. That will be encouraging.

  7. Wow, very cool, and what a concept! I’ve been wanting to make an author video for Cherry Blossoms and now have all the still shots and a video clip ready, just need to script and video myself talking. This is making me think it won’t be too intimidating. You’re an inspiration, Jan!

  8. How excited I was to see you vlogging! I like that word. Now that my last final exam is finished for the semester, I get to finish the other half of The Red Kimono! So far, it’s been a piece here and there. I look so forward to reading the remainder!
